Chapter 7 – Set Adrift on Memory Bliss

Corinne awoke the next morning and felt her head.  Damn! I’ve got to stop drinking so much.  And then she realized where she was—naked beside Nick Carter.  Umm… what a nice place to be.  She looked down at his sleeping face.  He looked so still and peaceful.  His blonde hair was tousled and his arm was outstretched above his head.  A part of her wanted to tickle him under his arm and she smothered a smile and the urge to do so.  Let him sleep, Corinne.

Corinne looked around the room just to make sure they were alone and they were.  She wondered where everyone else was and if they were still sleeping.  She didn’t hear any noises, so she suspected they were.

Sighing happily, Corinne laid back down and snuggled next to her lover.  She watched him until he turned over towards her and slowly opened his eyes to see her smiling face.

“Well, Good Morning.” He smiled.

“Good Morning.” She smiled back.

Nick leaned in to kiss her a couple of times.

“You don’t care about morning breath?” Corinne asked.

“Nope.”

“What about bed head?”

“Nope.  You still look beautiful.”

“And you just scored some more points.” Corinne giggled and they kissed some more.

Nick reached over and pulled her into him, still kissing her and luxuriating in her scent and her body.

“I want a repeat of last night.”  He said, gruffly.

“Well, apparently!” She laughed as she felt his erection throbbing against her leg.  “I guess I’ll oblige you…”

“Gee, thanks.” And then they got lost in each other again, making love with abandon and forming a closer bond that either of them realized at the moment.  Right now they were caught up in the here and now, the exquisite emotions and feelings that only lovemaking can bring.

Wow, what a really good book, Kevin thought as he closed False Bravado and threw it on the end table.  It took him six hours straight to read all 300 pages, but he did it.  He was surprised at how much he liked it.  Corinne really knows how to write, he thought.

Soon after Kevin met Corinne yesterday at Starbucks, he went to Borders Bookstore and purchased it.  False Bravado by Corinne Whitman.  He had read the back cover and it said,

“He’s a far cry from Davis”, Deanna Richards thought wryly as she watched Cole Dennison leave her bed to get dressed after their lovemaking session.  It was their third date in a week and he thought she was this fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants gal, living on the edge, and willing to give herself to him completely.  Cole had invited her to go sky-diving this weekend in San Diego and like a fool she had said yes.  The truth was she was a coward, not the confident, take charge woman he believed her to be.  Fresh from a divorce and a broken heart, she had met Cole on the rebound and suddenly her mouth was spouting lies that even she couldn’t believe.

Cole desired Deanna in way even he didn’t think was possible.  But should he play it safe and just have fun or risk it all and give his heart to this beautiful mystery woman?  The stakes may be too high because then he would have to divulge the one secret he didn’t want to share with anyone, the secret that may destroy him if he wasn’t careful!

Damn, if it didn’t make Kevin want Corinne even more than he had earlier.  He looked at the clock.  It was 10 o’clock.  Was that too late to call?  Screw it, he wanted to talk to her.

“Corinne? Hi, it’s Kevin from Starbucks.”

Corinne laughed.  “I remember who you are, Kevin.  How could I forget? I’m glad you called.”

“Sorry, it’s so late.  I just finished reading your book and I loved it.”

“Wow! You bought it and read it already? My God, you are tenacious!”

“Yes, I guess I am.  You are a really good writer, Corinne.  I think you should write that next book as soon as possible so I can read it.”

“Thanks, Kevin. Here I thought I was your biggest fan, but it seems like you’re becoming one of mine.”

Kevin laughed.  “OK, well, I also called to ask you if you like to go dinner tomorrow night.”

“Hmm, tomorrow is Sunday, right? That would be perfect.  I don’t work on Mondays.”

“Great.  Should I pick you up at 6:00? I guess I’ll need your address.”

Kevin sat up.  He had been daydreaming again, this time about his and Corinne’s first date.  It was wonderful date.  He took her to a quaint little restaurant in Hermosa Beach overlooking the beach.  They talked over wine and the conversation flowed easily.  Afterwards, they walked along the beach and ended up kissing in the sand.  He remembered the feel of her beautiful body, the look in her eyes, her smile… oh, God, he missed her...

Nick and Corinne went upstairs to find that no one was up yet.

“They must have stayed up pretty late.” Corinne laughed.

“Yeah, those are my friends.  I’m usually the one to stay up with them, but you know, I had more pressing business to attend to last night.”  Nick grinned at her.

Corinne was wearing a pair of shorts and a button-down blouse opened to reveal her one-piece bathing suit underneath.  She breathed in the ocean air and was in heaven.  She loved the beach and could stay here for days.

Suddenly Nick's arms grabbed her from behind.  He whispered in her ear, “So, if you had a choice, what would you do today?”

“Just stay here with you guys.”

“Good answer.”  He laughed and kissed her neck.

“But right now I would give anything for a Starbucks.” Corinne giggled.

“Hey, I think there’s a cappuccino maker downstairs believe it or not but I don't know how to use it.”

“Why am I not shocked?" Corinne laughed.

"Watch it!" He retorted and they ran downstairs to find it.

Hours later they were all lying out in the sun, enjoying the company and sunshine.  Corinne and Nick stole secret glances all day long when they weren’t spending time together, truly loving being in each other’s company.  Second to that, Corinne had a wonderful time with both Celia and Wendy.  Wendy turned out to be a treasure just like Celia and they laughed and shared tawdry stories and formed some real friendships.  Corinne spoke a little with Chris and Brent, but they usually hung out with Nick while they did their “male bonding” thing.  She let them have that.  She was enjoying her time on the “yacht” with Nick and his friends more than she had expected.  It was really what she needed.  She enjoyed it so much that she forgot to call Kevin back or even call Megan.  And when she finally thought of it hours later, she realized she wouldn’t have cell service out on the ocean anyway.  Well, the next day was Monday, so she would call as soon they got on “land”.

Sunday night was equally as satisfying as Saturday night.  Nick and Corinne couldn’t get enough of each other’s bodies; exploring every nook and cranny, kissing, touching, licking and sucking everywhere.  It was so much fun having a new lover where everything was new and exciting and both of them took full advantage of it, neither of them realizing that once the weekend was over, they would miss it more than they would ever imagine.

“Hi, Julia, this is Kevin.  How are you?”

“Oh, hi, Kev." Julia was a little surprised that Kevin was calling her—again within two days.

“Hi.  Hey, sorry to bother you again, but I can’t get a hold of Rin— Corinne and I’m a little worried.  I told her I would call her yesterday and all I get is her voice mail on her cell and at home and she never called me.  Do you happen to know how I can reach her?” He tried to sound casual.  He felt stupid calling her, but he really wanted to talk to Corinne.

“No, Kevin.  I have no idea where Corinne is.  She said she might call me, too, yesterday, but she never did.  Sorry I can’t help you.  Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, everything is fine.  I just wondered if she was alright, that’s all.  Well, thanks, anyway.”

Huh.  Julia didn’t know where she was.  Interesting.  Okay, Kevin, well, you’ll just have to wait until she calls you, you dummy.  God, he hated this waiting around.  He could be in Chicago doing the play, but instead he was waiting around for the love of his life to get back to him so he can find out what her response would be to his message from Friday night…

“Corinne, I have something to tell you.”

Corinne smiled up at him.  “What is it, Scotty?”

Kevin smiled at the nickname she had given him.  Soon after he started calling her “Rinna”, she told him she wanted a nickname for him.  Kevvy was too cutesy and stupid, Corinne thought, but Scotty was cool version of his middle name, so Scotty is was.  Kevin liked it.  He liked the fact that they had names for each other that no one else used.  It made it special just between the two of them.

“Rinna, I’ve fallen so fuckin’ in love with you!”

“I love you, too.  I have for awhile.”  She smiled and kissed him.  That kiss turned into a mind-blowing sex session that left the two of them breathless.

Kevin, you’ve got to stop, he told himself.  His mind kept slipping back into memory bliss, remembering all their blissful, happy times.  It’s funny how the mind is so selective once you break up with someone.  It somehow just remembers all the happy times and the bad times just seem to be swept under the carpet…
