Chapter 11 – Do You Remember?

“Kevin! Hi! What are you doing here?” Corinne asked.  She was walking out of the restroom and almost ran right into him.

“I came by your work today, but you had already left.  A woman there told you me that you had gone out with some guy named Andrew.”  She could tell her he was seething under his cool exterior.

“Who told you that?”

“So, you’re not with a guy named Andrew?”

“Well, sort of…” But before Corinne could finish, he wandered into the bar in search of this mystery guy.  He didn’t even know what this guy looked like, but he wasn’t going to steal his girlfriend…

Corinne followed behind Kevin.  “Kevin, what are you doing?!”

“Where is he, Corinne?” Wow, he was pissed, she thought.

Corinne decided to play along.  “Follow me.”  She walked over to the table where Julia and Andrew were sitting.

“Kevin, I would like you to meet Andrew, Julia’s boyfriend.  Andrew, this is my boyfriend, Kevin.”

“Oh, it's so nice to meet you finally." Andrew jumped up suddenly and shook Kevin’s hand.

“Uh, yeah, same here.  Hi Julia.  Can you guys excuse us for a minute?” Kevin took Corinne’s arm and led her to the bar.

“Baby, I’m so sorry.  This woman told me you had some hot date with this guy, Andrew.  I didn’t even think about Julia’s Andrew.  I guess I overreacted.”

“Ya think?” She smiled, not being able to resist taking a jab at him. “Let me guess.  Would this woman be a tall, red-head?” Kevin nodded.

“Yeah, that’s who I thought it would be.  That’s Priscilla.  She has a big mouth and sometimes, or a lot of times, she puts her foot in it.  I guess she only heard that I was going out with Andrew, not Andrew and  Julia.  Sorry, Scotty, but I’m not cheating on you.”

“I’m so relieved.”  Kevin reached over and kissed her.  “I thought I was going to have to kill that guy!”

Corinne laughed.  “You think you can take him? He’s 6’3, 210 pounds and he used to play college football.”

“Hell, yeah, I could take him! Do you doubt my abilities?” He looked at little hurt.

“No, baby.  I’m sure you could royally kick his ass!”

Corinne sighed, thinking, wow, that just happened last month and now we’re broken up.  She restlessly rolled over and looked at the alarm clock on her end table.  Fuckin’ 3 o’clock in the morning and she had to go to work tomorrow! Sleep was evading her and she knew why.  Two men were haunting her daydreams and their names were Kevin and Nick.

And what the hell was with Nick tonight? She didn’t completely buy his “I had a great time this weekend and that’s all it was” routine.  Something was up.  He went from almost confessing her love to her this weekend to matter-of-factly brushing her off tonight.  It just didn’t add up.

Corinne sighed, tired of trying to figure it all out and turned on the T.V.  She flipped around the channels until she landed on a network that was playing “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and she stopped.  Oh my God! That was it!

Kevin wasn’t able to sleep either.  He finally gave up at 1:00 am and got in his car and drove around.  He liked to drive; it made it easier to think and it also relaxed him.  He ended up at Santa Monica beach and started walking along the Pier.  The sound of the ocean waves soothed him.  He was glad because he was so tense; so wound up; so sad.  He had lost his best friend, his one true love and he didn’t know what to do.  He thought he and Corinne were soulmates; meant to be together, but Corinne seemed so lost; so unsure.  He still didn’t know if she was in love with Nick or just confused about what she wanted, but he still hoped that she would come to back to him.

Kevin thought about their lovemaking session this afternoon and smiled.  That was pretty damn incredible, but then again, the sex always had been.  No, it seemed most of their problems stemmed from either lack of communication or their differences in lifestyles.  Things he wanted to overcome, but he was less than confident that Corinne ever would.  Well, he had given her a two-week time frame.  He was certain he would know the outcome of their relationship by then.  Sighing, he headed towards his car and hoped he could claim some sleep once he got home.

Knock! Knock!

No answer.

Knock! Knock!

Groaning.  “Uh… Just a minute!”

Knock! Knock!

Damn! Who the hell was knocking on his door at 6 am?!

“Hold your horses! I’m coming!” Nick grabbed a t-shirt and shorts and pulled them on and groggily stumbled to the door.

He opened it with his eyes on halfway open.

“Nick!” Corinne jumped into his arms.  Nick stumbled backwards in shock and smiled.

“Corinne! What…?” Corinne was kissing him all over, giggling.  He had to hold her or they would both fall over.

“Take me to your bed!” She said and Nick complied, carrying her into his bedroom and plopping her onto his bed.

He smiled at her.  “What is going on with you, woman?!” Whatever it was, he was happy she was there, even though he had only gotten three hours sleep…

Corinne patted the bed.  “Lay down.”  Nick laid down and she straddled him and gave him a kiss.

“I figured it out, Nicky.”

 “Figured out what?”

“I figured out that you were lying to me last night.  You thought Kevin and I should be together, so your speech about ‘I had a great time, but that’s all it was’ was a lie.  You thought if I knew there was no future with us, then I would go back to Kevin.”

Nick just stared at her, puzzling at her revelation.  “And how did you come to that conclusion?”

Corinne sat back on her heels and said, “Well, I didn’t until tonight when I couldn’t sleep so I was flipping through channels on the TV and I landed on ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’.  You remember that?”

“Sort of.  Refresh my memory.”

“Well, remember when you had me, Kevin and AJ over a couple of months ago and you had just bought this new video game and Kevin and AJ got so involved playing it that you and I were pretty much on our own?”

Nick nodded, smiling.  That was a fun night.  He had liked spending alone time with her.

“Well, we were going to watch your movie, ‘The Hollow’ because I wanted to, but we ended up watching the middle of ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’.  You had never seen it but I had.  Anyway, we were watching the part where she was lying to her parents about seeing that guy Ian because he wasn’t Greek and we ended up in this long conversation about lying.  You told me that the only way you would lie in a relationship would be if it was for someone’s own good like what happened to you a couple years ago where you dated this woman who was separated from her husband and he wanted her back and she wanted to go back to him, but she was too attached to you to leave you, so you lied and said you got back together with an old girlfriend.  You broke it off with her so she go back to her husband and she did I guess.  So, anyway… I remembered all that and figured that since you did it before and said you would do it again if you needed to and you acted like you really cared about me last weekend and then you did a 180 last night… well, I figured out that you did it again.  Am I right?”

Nick sat there for a minute, stunned.  He had to take all of that in.  It was mind-boggling that first of all, she remembered that entire conversation because he sure didn’t, but that she pegged him good for doing it.  It was time to come clean, buddy.

“You are an amazing woman, Corinne.  And that’s why I love you.”  Nick said as he grabbed her and kissed her.

“Whoo hoo! I was right! You do love me! Well, I love you, too, Nickolas Carter.”

“That’s wonderful, baby, but it now time to stop talking…” Nick said as he lips pressed against hers again and he was able to put his huge hard-on that he had been sporting since Corinne first walked in to good use.

Pretty soon their worlds and bodies collided in a whirlwind of love and passion.

I think baby I know

What's on your mind

Cuz you look like you've

Got something to say

I think baby you should

Get that off your mind
