Olivia and Nick
“Kevin, what the hell is taking so long? The waves are beckoning, man…” Nick’s voice trailed off, instantly entranced by the woman at Kevin’s side. Who was this hot-looking female?
Olivia looked at Nick and then looked at Kevin. What the hell… Oh my God, I know why Kevin looked familiar! Kevin and Nick were members of the Backstreet Boys! Olivia felt her knees buckle underneath her and Nick reached over to grab her just in time, preventing her from crumpling on the floor in a mass of girlish infatuation. Shaking off the feeling of faintness, Olivia leaned against Nick gratefully. ‘Whoa, girl! Get a hold of yourself, Olivia,’ she sternly told herself. ‘It’s no big deal that Nick, Nick of the Backstreet Boys, the guy you had always been attracted to and had so wanted to meet, was holding you close and you can feel his arms around you and his breath on your neck. Oh God…’
“Easy there… Are you okay?” Nick looked at her to see if she was all right, truly concerned and happy to assist this gorgeous girl. She felt good in his arms.
Being in Nick’s arms was a wonderful feeling, too wonderful and Olivia would have loved to camp out there. Hearing his voice and seeing his face, his gorgeous face, not to mention being held by his strong arms was almost too much, but somehow she got a hold of herself and snapped back to reality. After all, Kevin was watching them. Olivia finally regained her composure and stood up on her own. “Yes, I’m fine, thank you. I don’t know what happened…” Olivia looked around quickly, but no one was nearby to witness her near collapse thankfully. She did, however, notice that Kevin was looking at her confused.
“Okay, I confess. I didn’t know who you were until I saw Nick. I mean, I thought you looked familiar but I didn’t know… anyway, you must think I’m an idiot this whole time talking to you not knowing who you were…” she said to Kevin, feeling sheepish.
Kevin laughed. “No, actually, I found it refreshing. I liked the fact you didn’t recognize me so I could find out if that you liked me for me. But if I knew you were going to faint, well, I would have told you I was a rock star.” Kevin teased her.
Olivia blushed furiously, embarrassed about the whole thing. She never got star struck, but there was just something about the Backstreet Boys (Kevin and Nick specifically) that was obviously affecting her.
“A Rock Star, ha!” Nick joked and Olivia laughed. Finally Kevin joined in, but he didn’t like Nick being there. AJ, Brian or Howie would have been okay, but not Nick. Not the guy girls always drooled over. Kevin admitted to himself he was jealous that Nick would take Olivia away from him. When Nick held her to keep her from falling, he noticed there was a spark between them. It tore him up inside because he desperately wanted her.
“Don’t let him fool you… he’s my back-up singer…” Nick continued.
“You bastard!” Kevin hit him harmlessly in the arm. The truth was jealous or not, he loved Nick and the other three guys like brothers and would do anything for them. Nick laughed and tried to get away.
Suddenly realizing some people were gathering around them, watching and whispering, they decided to exit the store pronto before the onlookers became frenzied autograph-seekers or a mob. Both Olivia and Kevin left Walgreen’s without either of them purchasing a pair of sunglasses.
The three of them walked around the corner and stood talking for a minute by the parking lot wall. The GTO was nowhere in sight.
“Nick, this is Olivia. This is the reason why I took so long in there…”
“Well, I can’t say I blame you. She’s gorgeous. Hi, Olivia, I’m… well, I guess you know I’m Nick.” His blue eyes twinkled when he smiled and Olivia felt if she didn’t firmly plant her feet on the ground her legs would get the better of her again and she would cease to remain in a standing position.
‘Gorgeous, huh? Wow! He thinks I’m gorgeous!’ Olivia’s heart skipped a beat. She was definitely on Cloud 9. “Hi, Nick. I think I actually met you briefly at one of your solo concerts in Seattle four years ago. I was with my boyfriend, Jack…”
“Well, that explains why I didn’t jump your bones!” Nick replied half seriously and the three of them laughed.
“Yeah, well now he is an ex-boyfriend. That was an awesome concert though. I loved all the songs on that album.”
“Thanks a lot. Yeah, that was a fun concert. Wish I remembered you, but you know I met tons of people on that tour…”
Olivia found herself babbling out of nervousness just to be in the presence of these guys. “Yeah, I know, don’t worry about it. We also went to one of the Backstreet Boys concerts in LA a few years ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the pleasure to meet any of you guys then, but I wish I had. It was another great concert.” She almost said “Shape of My Heart” was our song, but she stopped herself just in time. ‘It’s time to stop talking about Jack now. I’ve moved on… and definitely onto greener pastures…’ she thought as she stared at the two hunks standing in front of her who were looking back at her intently.
Olivia was in a quandary. She really liked Kevin a lot in the short time she had known him – he was funny and good-looking and she could see herself being “with” him which was an odd, but wonderful feeling she hadn’t felt since… well, you-know-who. And it seemed the feeling were mutual. But with Nick it was different. She had always been attracted to Nick the most out of all the BSB members although she didn’t really know him. But it was more of a chemistry thing with him – she couldn’t necessarily picture herself sharing her life with him like she could with Kevin, because he was young and probably a player and not ready to settle down, not that she would want to anyway with him, but she knew that they would have ass-kicking sex! The thought of that thrilled her. She always had boyfriends in the past, but she had secretly desired a wild fling with some hot young guy and the possibility that guy might be Nick excited her to no end. He was hot. It was a dream she had never thought would ever come true but after seeing Nick’s reaction to her, she thought it just might.
She wanted Nick just as much as Kevin, but both in a different way. How can that be possible? In the six months since her break up with Jack, she had barely dated, feeling numb, not wanting a serious relationship or any kind of relationship, sexual or otherwise and she hadn’t had one. She was emotionally drained. And here she was now on vacation on an ordinary day in June buying sunglasses (which she forgot she just now realized - oh no!) meeting two good-looking, famous, rich men (could you classify Nick as a man since he was only 25 going on hormonal 18 or so she had heard…?) in one day she was wildly attracted to and whom she felt were attracted to her, too (or at least she sensed they were) and she might have to choose between them. Life was funny sometimes.
Kevin was pondering the news of Olivia’s ex-boyfriend (were there feelings still there, what happened?) and the chemistry between Olivia and Nick all at the same time and not feeling very well. He didn’t want to lose her… but did he really have her? In the 15 minutes they were in the store, could he really claim her as his own? He had thought there was a mutual attraction between that could possibly turn into something but now seeing her with Nick, he had doubts.
“Hey, what happened to the other guys?” Nick said, suddenly realizing that the car wasn’t in the parking spot it had been in before.
“I don’t know…” Kevin began, looking around, too.
Just then a honk sounded. “Hey, you Dorks, we’re over here! Get in!” AJ yelled from across the street. They had been at the bank getting cash.
“Um…” Olivia hesitated, not sure what she was going to do.
“Well, Olivia, do you want to join us?” Kevin asked, hoping she would.
“Yeah, I’d love to, but I just remembered that a) I forgot to buy sunglasses…” she looked at Kevin and they both burst out laughing. “…and b) my friend Kelli brought me here and I need to find her. She actually went next door to go grocery shopping and said she would meet me at Walgreen’s at around…” she glanced at her watch, “about now… and there she is!” Kelli had dropped off her groceries in the car and was heading towards Olivia and her new friends.
Meanwhile, AJ continued to honk. “Hey, I’ll go stall AJ while you talk with your friend.” Nick said and ran over to the car.
“Liv! Hi!” Kelli caught up to her, looking confused at Kevin’s presence and Nick’s departure.
“Hi, Kel. Hey, this is Kev…”
Kelli laughed. “I know. Hi Kevin, how are you?”
Kevin smiled and gave her a hug. “I'm great. It’s good to see you again, Kelli.”
Now it was Olivia’s turn to look confused. How do they know each other? Olivia saw Nick and the other guys waving at Kelli from the car as AJ pulled up to where they stood in the Walgreen’s parking lot.
“Hey, Kel! What’s happening?” The guys greeted her.
“Not much. It was fun meeting you at the ‘Never Gone’ promotional party.”
Olivia was stunned at first but then she realized Kelli knew them from her job. She was a Promotions Director at Bender & Company off of PCH in Malibu. ‘I wonder why she never mentioned meeting them before to me since she knows I’m a big fan’, Olivia thought at first but then she realized Kelli met tons of celebrities and they were just a group of many Olivia probably didn’t know about. Before Olivia had moved to Portland two years ago with Jack, Kelli had taken her to many different concerts, but unfortunately not to any of the Backstreet Boys’.
“Well, I guess introductions aren’t necessary!” Olivia laughed. “Kelli obviously knows everyone, but I don’t.” She said, looking at the guys at the car, anxious to meet them.
“Oh, sorry. Olivia, this is Brian, Howie and AJ, but I’m guessing you already knew that. Guys, this is Olivia. She picked me up at Walgreen’s.” Kevin laughed.
“Hey, no, you picked me up!” Olivia hit him lightly on the arm and he fake coughed. They picked up right where they had left off a few minutes ago with their playful banter.
“Yeah, right, that’s how it went. No, you hit on me even though you didn’t even know who I was. You just couldn’t resist my good looks and charm.” Kevin flung it right back to her.
“Oh, God!” Nick pretended to cough in disgust, loving the chance to rib Kevin further. “Charm and looks?! I don’t think so. And did I hear that she didn’t recognize you? Now I’m shocked!”
“Hey, watch it.” Kevin pretended to charge at Nick with both fists. Nick laughed and dodged him.
“Break it up, you two. We’re all so used to this, Olivia. It’s cool to meet you.” AJ stubbed out his cigarette and held out his hand for her to shake.
Wow, what a gentleman, Olivia thought. She wouldn’t have thought he would be like that with his many tattoos and black fingernails. It goes to show that the old saying, ‘looks can be deceiving’ can be accurate at times.
The other three guys leaned over and shook her hand as well and she was thrilled. They all seemed so cool and well, hot! Better looking in person than the concerts, videos and pictures she had seen and that was saying a lot.
“Hi, guys. It’s a pleasure.” She gushed.
“So, what’s going on? Are you all coming or what?” Brian asked from the car.
Kelli answered first. “Uh, well, I would love to hang out with you guys, but I kind of have a date. I was supposed to cook dinner for Olivia and my boyfriend, but if Olivia wants to go with you, that’s cool - Danny and I will be just fine.” She smiled at her friend and noticed Olivia was nodding with a big smile on her face. Damn right, she was going. She didn’t care how squished she would be in the convertible. If it meant spending more time with Kevin and Nick, and even the rest of the guys, she was all for it.
“Yeah, I’d love to hang out with you guys, but where you going?” Olivia asked. Kevin and Nick secretly were very happy that Olivia would be joining them.
“The Santa Monica Pier. We’re only 5 minutes away.” Howie said.
Kelli and Olivia looked at each other and burst out laughing.
“We just came from there, but I would love to go back. It would be nice to have some sunglasses, though.” Olivia looked at Kevin and he grinned.
“Oh, my God, Liv, I just remembered that Gary gave me a bunch of sunglasses to give out at our next event at the Pier next week. I'll go get them.” She ran off to her car.
“Guys, I’ll be right back.” Olivia said to the men and ran off to catch Kelli. “Well, girlfriend, that information would have been helpful earlier when I was dying of sun glare at the beach. But then again, thank you because I wouldn’t have met Kevin and Nick and the other guys otherwise. You clearly weren’t going to invite me any of their events.” Olivia chastised her friend.
Kelli grabbed the glasses out of her car. “How many?” “Just two – one for me and Kevin.” She grabbed two pairs and then she turned to Olivia. “Oh, Liv, just chill. I would have invited you to their concerts and promotional events, but you live in Portland, remember? Plus, every time you were out visiting me they were either not on tour or in Europe. So, lay off! Besides you got to go to a couple of their concerts, right? Oh, by the way, I noticed both Kevin AND Nick were checking you out. Who are you going to hook up with?” Kelli whispered, happy her friend whom she knew loved BSB was going to hook up with at least one of them. She needed that after her heartbreak with Jack.
“That’s just it, Kel, I don’t know. I like Kevin a lot – he’s so funny and cute and… then there’s Nick, and well, he’s Nick. You know I’ve always liked Nick.” Kelli nodded. “And well, Kevin could be “the one”, but Nick could be “the Big O one” if you get my drift.”
Kelli laughed so loud that it caused the guys who were only a few feet away to turn around to see what was so amusing.
“Oh, God, that was funny. Well, sweetie, I’m sure you’ll do the right thing. These guys are really awesome and I’m sure both Kevin and/or Nick will take care of you – whichever one you decide on.” Kelli looked at her watch. “I should go. I have to take the groceries home and shower. It will be kind of fun to be alone with Danny tonight – no offense.”
“None, taken. Have lots of hot sex!” Olivia hugged her back.
“Olivia.” Kelli feigned shock. “OK, we will.” and she laughed. “You, too.” It was Olivia’s turn to laugh.
“Well, we’ll see… I don’t know with whom yet… we’ll see how things go…”
“Yeah, you know you’re getting some. Maybe with both of them.” Kelli raised her eyebrows lacsiviously.
“Yeah, right. Actually, that would be fine with me…” Olivia grinned evilly and they both giggled.
“Oh, don’t forget your beach bag since you’ll be going back to the beach.” Kelli said and Olivia grabbed it out of the back seat. “And these…” Kelli handed her the sunglasses. “I want all the juicy details tomorrow. Yeah, you heard me, tomorrow! Because I know you are going to have such a good time with someone. Anyway, call me if you need me.” Kelli hugged her friend.
“OK, sis. Bye.” And Kelli drove off, waving to the boys are she left. Kelli was closer to her than her own sister was to her.
Olivia was still standing there with a big smile on her face imagining what may lie ahead. Tomorrow. She couldn’t wait to see what tomorrow (and tonight) would bring.
