“When I’m down on my luck and I’m searching for my soul
When I’m feeling too much and I start to lose control
When I’m down so low that even enemies don’t wanna know
You still care for me, say a prayer for me and I know”
When Kevin picked Olivia up from her work that evening, he wasn’t prepared for what appeared before his eyes. Before him stood a vision of loveliness and she was his, all his. Olivia approached him wearing an elegant black halter dress that cinched at the waist and floated just above her knees. Her cleavage was beautifully displayed and her long, lean, tanned legs were exposed. She wore a sexy pair of black strappy sandals and had a matched black clutch purse. Olivia hair flowed in attractive blonde curls around her angelic face and speaking of her face, she had a glow radiating from it that Kevin didn’t miss.
Kevin stood there, speechless.
“Well, do you have anything to say?” Olivia giggled as she twirled for him. “Cat got your tongue?” she riled him.
“I… I… oh, my God! You are breathtaking!” He finally blurted out.
Olivia beamed some more. “Why, thank you, sir. You look very handsome as well.” She curtsied formally.
Kevin was dressed in a black and gray pinstriped suit with a green shirt and dark gray tie. Her looked very dapper and stylish.
“Shall we?” Kevin offered his arm and escorted her from the building.
“You know who you remind me of in dress?” Kevin said as he opened the car door for her and sat down in the driver’s seat.
“No, who?”
“Marilyn Monroe.”
“Wow, thanks!” Olivia looked at her dress. It was similar to the famous photo of Marilyn in that halter dress, except Marilyn’s was white. She smiled and wondered if Kevin knew what a great compliment that really was to her.
“Are you feeling better?” Kevin asked. Olivia looked at him and wondered if he had seen her vomit into the bushes this morning, but realized that he meant something else.
Kevin pointed to his chest and Olivia laughed. “Um, yeah, the twins feel better, but I did throw up this morning.”
“What? Why?”
“I don’t know. I think it was that Chinese food we ate last night. Pretty spicy.” She dismissed it.
“Oh, okay. I’m glad you feel better.” He said, relieved.
They arrived in Spago’s amidst a flurry of faces, voices and food. The event was catered so there was everything from caviar to little frankfurters and cheese and crackers. A waiter handed them some champagne flutes and they sipped their drinks and walked around.
Howie, Brian and AJ were there, chatting with each other and some other people. Kevin and Olivia said hi and chatted with them awhile. Olivia looked around, but there was no sign of Nick. She wondered if he was even going to show up.
Olivia excused herself to the restroom where it seemed she lived these days and Kevin milled about, making idol conversation.
Olivia used the restroom and checked her appearance in the mirror. She smiled. She did look pretty hot. Wow, her boobs look like they were going to fall out of her top, she thought and as she walked out, she was still straightening her top.
Not looking where she was going, she ran straight into Nick.
“Oh, sorry… oh, hi!” Olivia looked up at Nick and immediately dropped her hands.
“Hi!” Nick said and was glued to the spot. He was thinking, ‘oh my God, she looks gorgeous!’ but of course, he couldn’t say that.
Olivia noticed the sweeping motion of his eyes and smiled inwardly, secretly thrilled that he still found her attractive.
“You look… wonderful. Something is agreeing with you.” Nick finally said.
“Thank you. You look pretty darn nice, too, Mr. Carter.”
“Thank you, Miss Barrett.” He smirked.
Nick was actually wearing a black suit with a light blue shirt that brought of the blue in his eyes she noticed. He was still so damn sexy…
“Are you warm? You look really flushed.” Nick said and then Olivia flushed more with embarrassment.
“I’m fine. I’ll see you later.” She said, anxious to escape the affect he always had on her.
“Yeah, okay. Later.” Nick said and watched her walk off. ‘What a beautiful derriere’, he thought and remembered her naked. She had a perfect ass, perfect legs, perfect… ‘Stop it, Nick. She’s Kevin’s now…’ he told himself and took a large sip of his Black Russian. A tall, leggy blonde joined Nick and they went outside to get some air.
The party was fun, the food was exquisite and the company was lively. Olivia and Kevin managed to talk with almost everyone there— being the model socialites.
Later on in the evening, after many people had already left, Kevin, Olivia, AJ, Howie and Brian were sitting on the balcony enjoying some laughs and good conversation. Olivia remembered when she had met Nick’s date earlier in the evening. Her name was Brandi and she looked to be all of 18, although Olivia had heard she was 23. ‘Nick, you really are rebounding big time, aren’t you, babe?’, Olivia had thought when she had first met her. She had felt a little twinge of jealously, but not as much as she would have thought she would feel. It had been a month since she and Nick had been intimate and in that time she and Kevin had grown extremely close and she knew he was “the one”. Nick still caused her heart to beat wildly whenever she saw him--that she couldn’t help--but she knew it was truly over.
Someone put a mixed music CD in the CD player and sounds of Prince, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen among others played in the background of their talking.
Nick casually walked up the five-some and sat down with them, chugging a beer. “Hey, Nick, what happened to your teenage girlfriend?” AJ teased.
“Yeah, you’re funny, AJ.” Nick sneered.
“Was it past her bedtime?” Brian asked, joining in.
“Ha, ha, you guys. I took her home. She had to get up early to take an exam.”
“OK, okay, whatever you say, buddy.” AJ patted his shoulder condescendingly and Nick waved him off. He sat there, quietly sipping his beer and he boldly looked in Olivia’s direction.
Olivia turned her head and met his gaze. She immediately looked down, a slow blush appearing on her cheeks and spread over her entire body. She felt the heat through her dress and blamed it on the champagne. When she dared to look at Nick again he was still staring at her, eying her as if he knew exactly what affect he had on her body.
Suddenly the song, “Get Another Boyfriend” started playing and Olivia jumped up. She didn’t know if it was the champagne talking or just her comfortableness with the guys, but she blurted out, “Hey, you guys, I’ve always had a great idea for a video you could have shot for this song…”
“Olivia, we didn’t do a video for this song. It wasn’t a single.” Kevin said.
“Yeah, I know, Babe…” she shot a look at Nick, “but I still had an idea. Do you want to hear it?”
Nick took another swig of beer and was silent. The rest of the guys agreed to humor Olivia.
Olivia went over to the CD player and pushed the “repeat” button. The song started playing again.
“OK, for this part AJ, you start singing…” and AJ started singing the words, “Let’s talk about one, baby, you gotta hear me out…” “and then you start dancing with me like this…” And Olivia and AJ started dancing a sort of slow, swing type of dance where he twirled her around and they did some sashays and step-ball-changes. He followed her lead very well. Since Olivia and the guys had some experience with dancing, it shouldn’t take them long to pick up dance moves and it didn’t. “…he’s the essence of your life, but he’ll eat you up from inside slow…” Olivia then grabbed Brian and they started do the same type of dance as she AJ had done previously. Moving back and forth, his arm around her, spinning her and laughing. “This is fun…” Brian said and Olivia smiled. “Listen, I mean it, there’s nothing he’s worthy of…” Howie and Olivia danced a little and then Kevin jumped out and grabbed his girlfriend, getting with program and eager to claim her in his arms, not wanting to share her, but also enjoying the fun. Olivia and Kevin danced, staring into one another eyes, lost in the moment. “Get another boyfriend...” Then suddenly Nick jumped up and grabbed Olivia to her shock and everyone else’s until they realized he was drunk— he began to sing his line… “Let’s talk about what he’s done to become your number one, or was it all the promises of diamonds, pearls and party dresses that turned you on. I’ve seen it before, don’t take anymore, free too, you’re through for sure, just go get on with your life, stop acting like you’ve given up. I’m telling you go get on with your life, stop acting like you’ve given up.” The words seemed strangely appropriate somehow and while Nick sang them, he held Olivia tight as they glided together and he spun her around three times and then dipped her so far that her head almost touched the ground. As he yanked her up, their eyes met and he almost kissed her. Olivia’s eyes were wide, not only from Nick’s romantic assault on her, but the fact that her world was suddenly spinning wildly out of control and she was losing her grip on reality, sliding slowly towards the darkness, slipping out of Nick’s arms towards the concrete ground below…
